The Underground Exchange UK is one phase of a cultural exchange program that aims to showcase the best of the UK’s underground street culture here in South Africa. We caught up with the curator, Dr Zulu, to find out what the exhibition has to offer. Check it out. Length: 04:22
The Underground Exchange UK is the first international graffiti exhibition South Africa has seen and was created through a collaboration between Shelflife and Fiction. The objective of this initiative is to promote creative and cultural exchange between regions and to showcase and provide a good perspective of street and graffiti art in the United Kingdom. The artists that are featured in this exhibition are Banksy, Part2ism, She One, Solo One, Mark Ireland and Ink Fetish. This exhibition is remarkable because it makes art more accessible to the public, showing that art is not limited purely to galleries, but can also be exposed in one of Cape Towns’ most popular nightclubs and is even visible from the street.
