On Sunday 4 September one small seed TV attended the Krowned Game of Skate and Best Trick Showdown to film all the tricks and stage shenanigans and interview some of the guys to find out about culture and this new initiative. Length: 03:48

Hosted by Vans Footwear and Familia Skateboards, the Krowned Game of Skate and Best Trick Showdown took place on 4 September at Zula Bar in Cape Town. This was first event of its kind by Krowned Lifestyle (Rhulane Shiburi and Jake Fouche) and from the turnout it pulled, it’s likely to be the start of many. The participants that attended came from all over Cape Town, some bringing their mates, some their parents, some just their boards – all of them bringing their respect. It was an event hosted by skaters, funded by skaters and put on for the skaters. After more than six hours of skating and, the judges (including Khulu Dlamini and Loucas Polydorou) had made their choice: Simon Stipcich took first place for Game of Skate, while Best Trick went to Wesley Schroder.

Live acts included Etc Crew, Remy Gold, DJ Juice, Boogie 2.0 and the Illusive Moose!, and as the night rolled on it was clear the day was never about the competition, but rather to bring a whole bunch of skaters from all of Cape Town together under one roof to have a good time. The event left us all feeling a little less jaded and showed that the local skate sub-culture is something to recognize and support – even if the only thing we’re riding are those idealistic high times.
